If you like Alton Towers and Thorpe Park, if you think you can withstand any roller coaster, vomit educing fairground ride then take a trip on the Amalfi Drive.
Rule 1 - Never leave a travel book behind on the basis that "you are not going there today", a la I am off to Amalfi by boat so I do not need my Capri guide book and maps. It was a two hour wait for Amalfi so I caught the Capri boat, which left in five minutes, instead.
Geoffrey Perkins one of the great figures of British comedy over the last 30 years has died following a road traffic accident in Marylebone.
I first became aware of Geoffrey as a name at the end of the BBC Radio 4 series The Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. I fell in love with H2G2 in 1979 and started looking (and listening) out for the names of those involved. Geoffrey's name cropped up often in relation to a number of programmes that I loved both on radio and TV.
He invented Mornington Crescent, was involved in the first series of Father Ted, produced the Fast Show and many of the programmes involving Harry Enfield, Operation Good Guys (an overlooked classic) and Coupling.
I felt a very real sense of loss at the death of Douglas Adams in 2001 and that same feeling came over me yesterday as I read of Geoffrey's death. Obviously I never met either of them but their ideas and work has been a regular part of my life and my sense of humour has been influenced by their work that it is hard to imagine a world without their spark.
Admittedly this is a late lament for Douglas but it seems apposite to link his death to that of Geoffrey as they both came from the same place, BBC Radio comedy, to make such a great impact on comedy. It also feels very peculiar to be talking about Geoffrey and not be laughing. His next project, Harry and Paul, is starting next week on the BBC so we should be laughing because of his work again.
In the meantime my thoughts are with his family.
What a brilliant idea this was of Bradley's, buy a cheap season ticket at Fulham and get to watch the Premiership live as well as on Sky.
So here I am following a rather pleasant trip via Wimbledon and a lovely walk along the Thames sitting four rows from the pitch at Craven Cottage. The first home game is against Arsenal. What a great way to spend a Bank Holiday Saturday.
A first post is rather important, it sets the tone for a blog and is a good place to set out what future blogs will cover.
Well, I read a fair deal, I watch films and TV series, I follow football, F1, I love music and I have geeky tendancies (some or all of these might be understatements) so you expect comments on amy/all of the above.
Oh and I am a Mac disciple, so I am writing this on a 3G iPhone, watching The Dresden Files on my MacPro & watching the start of the footy season on my TV. The last has nothing to do with Apple although I do use it as a second monitor for my Mac.
Time to go but I will be backs when the spirits move me.
